  • Anita Grossman Soloman WORKSHOP – Self Mitered Log Cabin

Calvary CRC 3500 Byron Center Ave, SW, Wyoming, MI, United States

Self Mitered Log Cabin The unique Make It Simpler® Self-Mitered Log Cabin Quilt below is a fabric lover’s jewel box. Anita developed a streamlined technique based on her prize-winning entry in Jinny Beyer’s 1997 “Basic Realities” contest. The 6" finished blocks are simple to sew and the quilt construction is straightforward. Without using pins, 1 1/2" strips of fabric intersect on their own to form a precise miter. Expect Anita to have a trick up her sleeve. The book Rotary Cutting Revolution is required for the Self-Mitered Log Cabin.  It is a paperback available from the usual sources. It's also included free in my Craftsy

  • Norma Whaley WORKSHOP – Remember The Giver

Calvary CRC 3500 Byron Center Ave, SW, Wyoming, MI, United States

Remember The Giver This wall hanging is made, by stitching wool to a cotton background. I enjoy mixing these mediums, and it makes the expense more reasonable rather than working with wool. The backgrounds of the blocks are pieced... the more fabric the better, right? I love the interest this adds to the backgrounds with the blending of fabrics. In the class, I will share tips I've picked up along the way in working with wool. We will discuss the pros and cons of working with a fusible product or just using freezer paper. Students should feel free to do what they already love doing.

Her fusing technique using Misty Fuse™ will be shown along with her fabric painting on the finished design which adds depth and detail to the piece. She then finishes the piece with batting, backing, and free-motion sewing, changing threads constantly to add even more depth to the finished piece.

  • Sue Cortese Workshop – Snow/Ice Dyeing

Calvary CRC 3500 Byron Center Ave, SW, Wyoming, MI, United States

In this class, we will explore the serendipity that is snow/ice dyeing.  We will be using Procion MX Fiber Reactive dyes and either snow or ice to help disperse and distribute the dyes onto the fabric.  We will explore different folding and scrunching techniques to see the textures that they create in the dyeing process.  This dyeing technique gives the fabric a watercolor type effect.  When snow is not available, ice can be used as a substitute.  This process is not for the control freak...the person who wants to controlled outcomes or doesn't handle a bit of messiness.  Dyes, auxiliary chemicals and supplies are provided
