    Introduction to Electric Quilt 8 Full Day Workshop Electric Quilt has just released EQ8 (the first release in over 7 years). This version has an entirely new look and feel which Kari thinks you are really going to enjoy learning. This class will cover basic navigation of the software, creating a new project, using the libraries, using Quick Quilts for fast projects, adding borders, coloring tools/fabrics, creating quilt labels and printing quilts, blocks, fabric yardage estimates, rotary cutting, and foundation patterns.     Trunk Show plus Using Specialty Rulers for enhanced Speed & Accuracy Prepare to be educated as Kari describes her design process, shows beautiful quilts, and demonstrate useful tools. During this lecture, you will see several quilts from her current designs and sneak peeks at new projects. Many of Kari's projects utilize over-sized piecing and subsequent trim-downs with rulers from Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design. She will share tips for effectively using these rulers.     Pictoral Foundations Using Electric Quilt Take your favorite photo (or even an applique block) and convert it to a pieced block that can be foundation pieced! This class will cover how to draft one of a kind foundation patterns. We will start with the basics of foundation piecing and graduate to some of the more complex design possibilities. Level: intermediate Fee:  $50 for members. $60 for non-members.

  • Sue Cortese Workshop – Snow/Ice Dyeing

    In this class, we will explore the serendipity that is snow/ice dyeing.  We will be using Procion MX Fiber Reactive dyes and either snow or ice to help disperse and distribute the dyes onto the fabric.  We will explore different folding and scrunching techniques to see the textures that they create in the dyeing process.  This dyeing technique gives the fabric a watercolor type effect.  When snow is not available, ice can be used as a substitute.  This process is not for the control freak...the person who wants to controlled outcomes or doesn't handle a bit of messiness.  Dyes, auxiliary chemicals and supplies are provided

    In this class, you will be creating our own unique appliqué piece, combining a unique snow dyed background with a solid color applied piece.  We will work on creating our own paper folded design, however, there will be Hawaiian patterns to work from or trace.  The back ground pieces may be made in a separate class or can be purchased from the instructor.  We will walk through the process alignment, basting, and needle turn appliqué (sewing around curves, point and crotches).     This is one of my most popular patterns. Combine your favorite black and white fabrics with a trio of brights to make a bargello-style wall hanging that pops with color! You will create “strata” of 2″ strips and then cut them into varying widths to create your design. The finished size is 34″ w x 39″ h.     This scrappy pin cushion features a scrappy Sawtooth Star block, featuring a string paper pieced center!  This adds a little more twinkle to each star! The fundamentals of paper piecing are covered, as well as tips for choosing just the right fabrics so each student can make their own quilt!
