SUMMARY:English Paper Piecing and Millefiori Wallhanging Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Millefiori is a kaleidoscopic design made by using English Paper Piecing templates shaped to fussycut fabrics. The fabric is then positioned on papers of the same shape and then whip stitched together to create a rosette. \nThis is a hand piecing class that will help you design and make a rosette for a Millefiori quilt.  Diane will show you how to make\nthe rosette using either acrylic templates to cut your fabric shapes and/or paper templates to shape your fabric around the template using a soluble glue stick.\n\nThis will include tips for fussy cutting\, using a magic mirror and best threads for connecting your pieces.\nDiane will also show students two other methods:  the use of Inklingo (a printer template method on fabric) and the use of a sewing machine to\nsimplify rosette piecing.\n\nA supply list will be emailed to enrollees so be sure to include your email address. (NO MACHINES NEEDED)\n

SUMMARY:Zoom Class - Exploring Half-Square Triangles with Beth Helfter - January 26\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Accordion Sewn HSTs have created a whole revelation in half square triangle making\, where everyone doesn’t need a twin\, scrap quilts fully realize the potential of their variety\, and blocks can be created just by ordering fabrics within accordions for perfect placement of color and fabric. \n” The Accordion Sewn HSTsTM method came to me almost in a fever dream\, and since then I’ve been on a mission to bring it to groups\neverywhere\, showing the cool things it can do\, from scrappy to ordered accordions that create a block practically in one fell swoop. In this class\, you will learn the basic technique\, and apply it to an ordered accordion block. We will take it one step further and learn\nAccordion Sewn QSTsTM too! So much fun! \n  \nClass Fee:  $35 \nPlease sign up for the workshop directly on the EvaPaige Quilt Designs website:\n*Intro to Accordion Sewn HSTsTM Zoom January 26\, 2022 6pm – 9pm ET – EvaPaige Quilt Designs\n(evapaigequilts.com)

SUMMARY:Lecture: Beth Helfter - Give It A Scrap Slap
DESCRIPTION:As a mostly scrappy designer\, Beth prefers to dig into her stash to create designs that appeal to her senses of color and value\, using as many different fabrics as possible. Keeping to just a few color families in each quilt palette is one of her best tricks to keeping scrappy quilts from getting too out of hand but allowing them to sing with tone and movement. \nAs a member of Quiltmaker Magazine’s 2014 Scrap Squad\, she recreated a design from each of six issues using only scraps\, and was able to bring out different secondary designs and block highlights simply by adding more tone and value\, as scrap quilts will do.Since founding EvaPaige Quilt Designs in 2005\, she has published a vast range of scrappy patterns and her work has been featured in various quilting magazines and on well known quilting websites.

SUMMARY:September Lecture - Pat Yamin - "Unfinished Business"
DESCRIPTION:Pat Yamin\, president and founder of Come Quilt With Me\, is well known in the quilting industry\, and has appeared on many television and radio quilt shows\, the most recent being The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson. Her company manufactures templates and other tools that assure accuracy and shorten the time necessary to make a quilt. \nThis lecture is a look at Pat’s collection of quilt tops and the stories they tell.  Pat began her love affair with old textiles at a Brimfield\, Massachusetts outdoor flee market. There were mountains of pillowcases\, dresser scarves\, doilies and tablecloths everywhere; quilt blocks and unfinished tops piled carelessly in baskets and on tables. Pat purchased her first quilt top (a late 19th century white and blue four patch) for $12.50. The history of these treasures is mostly unknown. What happened\, why were they unfinished and abandoned? Come see Pat’s fascinating treasures and hear her thoughts on what might have been. \nLearn more about Pat Yamin at https://www.comequiltwithme.com/. \nThis lecture will be held at the Calvalry Christian Reformed Church\, 3500 Byron Center\, Wyoming\, MI. Non members may attend for a small fee taken at the door. Or sign up for a membership with the link below! \nWMQG Membership Registration

SUMMARY:Quilt of Valor Sew-In
DESCRIPTION:A QOV Sew-In will be held at the church during the day from 9-4 on May 25. The church is limiting us to just 20 people socially distanced. The last time we had a QOV sew-in we made two tops with 8 ladies. If we can get 20 sewers we could make 4 quilt tops to be used for presentations to veterans at the Quilts on the Grand in 2022. We ask that you either bring a yard or two of red\, white or blue fabric or donate $10.00 at the door for the purchase of quilting backing.  Register today and don’t miss out on visiting and sewing with your WMGQ friends.

SUMMARY:Pam Buda Lecture - Secrets of Professional Quilters Revealed!
DESCRIPTION:This Power Point presentation is packed full of very useful information that will teach you to use alternative piecing methods for making units\, as well as tips and hints relating to every aspect of quilting. Pam also shares secrets she’s gathered over years of trial & error\, taking classes\, and learning from what fellow designers and national teachers have shared with her. \nThe lesson begins with learning the “Make it larger – Trim it down” techniques.  Pam demonstrates step-by-step techniques for making units (such as Half Square Triangles\, Quarter Square Triangles\, Square-in-a-Square units\, and Flying Geese) larger than they need to be so they can be trimmed down to be squared and the correct size.  These perfectly squared units go on to be perfectly squared blocks\, then squared quilts that lay flat and go together easily!! Many\, many designers and award winning quilters use these techniques and you can too! \nThere are also plenty of tips on a variety of subjects such as general pressing tips\, pressing Four Patches and Pinwheels to lay perfectly flat\, and how to correctly sew Connector Corners\, accurate 1/4 inch seams\, alternate sewing methods for the Corner Square Triangle units\, how to hide flaws and errors\, and so much more! \nAfter watching the Power Point presentation\, Pam will show more than 50 quilts to view up close and personal\, all made with the techniques shown in the presentation. \nYou can see Pam’s artistry at heartspunquilts.blogspot.com \nMembers – Free\nGeneral Admission – $7

SUMMARY:Sue Cortese LECTURE
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 22\, 2019:  Tonight’s WMQG Meeting and Lecture have been canceled due to weather.\n\n“My Quilting Journey”\nIn this lecture\, Sue will take people through the quilts that she has made. From some of her first quilts to some of her most recent quilts. \nWhen she started quilting\, her quest was to make a quilt from every pattern and technique. This challenge has led her to take classes from some of the top national educators and create a diverse and varied stockpile of quilts. \nSue will talk about what she has learned about color\, pattern\, balance\, and variety. Originality has also been a big thing for her. When she started out\, she was following patterns\, but tried to find a way to put her own touch into each quilt. During the lecture\, Sue will go through some of her milestone quilts:  her first ribbon winner\, her first original design\, her first published quilt\, etc. She will talk about what was successful and what was not.
