30th Anniversary of WMQG  -  1977 to 2007
Celebrating 30 Years of Piecemaking!

Commemorative Quilt

Here are a some of the great blocks and the center medallion for the Commemorative Quilt.  Be sure to sign a block!

The November 2007 Guild meeting was the start of the Quilt project for the Public Museum of Grand Rapids.  We will be making a Signature Quilt for their permanent collection.  It will reflect the fabrics and style of today.  Block kits will be available for members to pick up.  The quilt will be on display at the Quilts on the Grand 2008 show.

The September Party was a hit!

Presidents1w.jpg (267519 bytes)  We were very fortunate to have 13 of the 20 Presidents at our September Party.  They all received corsages and gift bags along with a standing ovation for their outstanding contribution to the Guild.  Thank you, ladies!

Tanisw.jpg (187401 bytes)Three original members (and Presidents) thanked the Guild for recognizing them and for the wonderful anniversary party.  They are Paula Kemperman, Sue Rand & Ruth Tanis.

These are Ardie's two appliqué designs that she make especially for our Anniversary Book.  She enlarged them 162%.  They are truly works of art!  Thank you, Ardie, you're an inspiration!

Time Capsule!

We are very excited about this project.  And we'll need everyone's input.  We have started collecting items for the Time Capsule, here are a few of the items we have:
  • Guild related papers.  A Past President sent in pictures of her quilt entries from past shows.
  • Books, magazines from 1977 & 1987, fabric, patterns, notions, and tools.
  • Our 15th Anniversary video, 20th Birthday Bash book & 30th Anniversary book.
  • Current By-laws and Directory
  • Copies of the Patch of News
  • Photo CDs of Quilts on the Grand and Guild Meetings.
  • An original "Quilting is My Bag".

Bring your items to any Guild meeting and we'll include it in the Time Capsule.  The Time Capsule will be stored at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids until 2027 when we will have our 50th Anniversary.  Guild members from the future will be able to see who we were, what we did and thank us for giving them a glimpse into the Guild's past.

Scrapbook

Many of you have taken the 5" x 7" archive quality sheets available at the meetings.  You may write anything you like about the Guild, activities you participated in, pictures of quilts you showed at the Quilts on the Grand, etc.  We are trying to capture the essence of what the Guild means to its members.

We look forward to getting yours back and collecting them all for the Time Capsule Scrapbook  Lizanne will have a table at the meetings - please turn in your page there.  Thanks!

Cookbook

Update

We asked for 500 recipes hoping to get at least 300, but you all came through and we ended up with 567 recipes for our 30th Anniversary Cookbook! Regretfully not every recipe turned in made it, but most did.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The down side to getting this many recipes is that the book is going to cost us more to publish, but we really wanted to keep the cost down to insure that they all get sold. This means that you will be getting a book that the company recommends selling for about $12.00 for a mere $10.00.

The publisher anticipates delivery to us in late June or early July so they will be on sale at the guild meetings in July and September. The remainder will be sold at “Quilts on the Grand” in October. At least that is the plan, as we want to get this money to “The Tie That Binds” as soon as possible. If you can’t make it to either of these meetings please have a friend get them for you or contact one of the committee members to make sure they are held for you. Our profits, which are going entirely to our charity, are expected to be between $5,000 and $6,000.

If you wish to sell them to friends and relatives we will have coupons that you can use to pre-sell them. Show them your book, take their money and give them a receipt. Then you can buy the books at the next meeting.

Again, thank you all so much for your enthusiastic participation.
We hope you will enjoy the cookbook and that it will be a nice memento of the guild’s 30th anniversary.

Sincerely,

The Cookbook Committee:
Colleen Ambrose, Lorna Baker, Sue Botma, Pat Chapman, Jan Larsen, and Adrienne Wilson

We are exploring many options that we will announce as we get approval from the Board.  Your participation will make these projects fun and rewarding and will have a lasting impact on our Guild.  I am having so much fun with this and I hope you will join me!
